Great North Road. — Forming 100 chains of roadway, and cutting side drains thereto, 30 tect apart, 200 chains; size, S J- feet on top, 3i- leet deep, 2 feet wide at bottom ; nil stumps, peat, and unsouud soil taken therefrom to be cast away ; all clay or gravel to bo spread evenly over 16 feet of centre of road ; level the natural surface over 20 feet throughout the whole distance before forming embankment. Construct 0 culverts of black pine or totara, each 24 feet long, 18 inches wide, and 1 foot deep, placed at least 18 inches below the level of surface of embankment. Cut outfall drains, same size as side drains, to continue till free discharge is obtained.
