THE DUNSTAN.
Ofi-icial Heport. —The latest official report from the Dunstan goldfield is for the week ending December 20th. The following are the principal items erf interest. The Commissioner estimates the "population as follows.: —■ Miners in proclaimed district and in outlying gullies, Conroy's, Meredith's, Earnscleugh, &c, &c. - - - 2,000 Others engaged in business pursuits - 1,500 Miners and others in the Lake District, Fox's Eush, and Cardrona - 4,000 7,50(3 One new discovery has been reported during the week by four miners. The locality was twelve miles west of the source of the Earnscleugh River, and west of the Carrick ranges, in a gully one mile in length, sinking three feet in depth, prospect 4 oz 3 dwts obtained from about SO dishes in one day and a half. The discoverers were granted a claim of 14,400 superficial feet, subject to the approval of his Honor the Superintendent. Mr. Keddell further says :—The whole of the attention of the miners not settled in payable claims has been taken up with the coiatinual rumors of extraordinary rici-i finds in the Lake District. A few, very few, have returned describing that iocality as patchy, but the many only complain of the scarcity of provisions. — Otayo Daily Times.
