TASMANIA.

"N c extract the following from the ILolart Tuicn ltcrcnrv, i>t' December !' : —

The effect of advices received this morning was rather to depress the tone of the market, than itheruise. In the grain trade wheat was inactive, ami it is with some little difliculty that sales were effected at 5s 3d. Of oats, there were very few offering, nearly all last season's growth have been cleared out at the recent rates. Holders were asking 7s Oil, but no sales were reported. New hay. loose, realised £5 to L'O, and pressed £'('. 1 0s to £7.

Flour was in demand for home consumption :inly, at from .t'l3 to .I'll for firsts, according to quantity, limn, Is 3d.

In consequence of the remit news from New Zealand, the demand for freight for horses was very brisk to-day. The Prairie is already a full shij), and will leave with 50 on Wednesday or Thursday, and the Emma J'rescott with 4') is expected to get away on Saturday. The Isabella and the ]'ryde are both advertised to take horses, and will most probably bo away early next week. Added to the above, other vessels are daily expected for cargoes of horses, the effect of which upon (he hors.3 market here cannot fail to be highly beneficial.

The Si/,/,iei/ Moniing llcvahl, of the 291h Nov., says : — " The amount of gold coin issued 03- the Sydney branch of (he Royal Mint, during the week, has been 10,000 sovereigns. The quantity of gold-dust imported into the same establishment during the week, for the purpose of coinage, has been 1'2.0390zs The Western and Southern Kscnrts have arrived from our pold fields, and have delivered at the Sydney branch of the Royal Mint the following quantities of gold-dust: — Western — From Forbes, l,.V>ooz. ; liathurst, 3870z. 12dwt. 13gr. ; Bunancjong, I.l32uz.,il(hvt. 13-r ; Braidwood, l/il'.foz. lOdwt. 2oirr. ; (iolburn, 17oz. lDJwt. ; Nerrigundah, oOJoz. ISdwt.; totr.l, -1,-JlOuz. ildwts. 22grs. The cause of the smnllness of this weeks's return is owing to the fact that no rrold has been received this week from Sof ila, Tambaroora, ILirgravcs, and Mudgce. The share market continues without much animation, and the transactions during the week have been limited. There is not. quite so much eagerness to invest at present rates, the late issue of Government Debentures having for the moment absorbed the surplus capital. Bank shares arc steady, and. without any alteration in price. In steam shares there has been nothing done with the exception of a sale of the new shares of the Australasian Steam Navigation Company, nt a slight reduction on previous rates. There have been a few transactions in marine and fire insurance shares, but prices remain the same as last week."
