PEOJECTED DEPARTURES. Midas, for Melbourne, awaiting a change of wind.
The M.S.S. Prince Alfred did not sail until 6.30 a.m. on the 6th, in consequence of the mails not arriving here until 5.25 p.m. on the oth, at which time it was too lato to get under weigh. Every exertion should be made to prevent any detention of the 1.1t.M.C. steam ships at this port, as it must be evident to all (hat the trade between Dunedin and the Bluff is not particularly remunerative at the present time. On this occasion about three tons, or say about £12 worth, of coal was used to get and keep up the steam on the evening of the oth, all to no purpose, as the mail arrived late.
Tbo sbip Storm Cloud, from Glasgow, with immigrnntß, arrived safely on tbe morning of the Bth (about 7.45), and anchored at Biuff Harbor, after making a fine rim of 85 days, having put in at Fort William and stayed there two days. She brings her passengers in excellent condition, and inasmuch as only three deaths (children) having* occurred on board during the voyage, we may pronounce ber bill of health as good. We cannot better give the opinion of our reporter than in his own words, " that a finer or more respectable set of passengers sever came into port." The Captain received from the passengers a very flattering testimonial, reflecting tbe" highest credit on his Character as a seaman, and his solicitude for the comfort and well-being of the passengers during the voyage.
