(To tke Editor the Invercargill Times.')

Sir, — Having seen my name flourish in the Southland News of to-day in connection with what they term indecent exposure, will you allow me to lay the facts before your readers. On Tuesday morning having had occasion to go down to Punic creek for a bucket of water, while there I became suddenly unwell. I was surprised by a policeman coming up the creek, and when within aboufc twenty yards he told ma thafc I had better walk with him. Thinking the man made some mistake I asked him what; he wanted, and was told that if I followed him I should see. Seeing no help for it, I left the bucket to its fate, and followed him to the station, when I was charged with the above offence, and had to leave bail for my appearance ab Court afc 11 o'clock, to answer the said charge, when, on going there I received a lecture, and was fined in the modest sum of 40s. Now sir, what I want to know is, what is a man to do in such cases, is nofc every working man employed about town liable fco run the risk of being fined 40s. for thafc which sometimes is unavoidable ; owing to the want of proper accommodation, such case must be of daily occurrence. By inserting the above, you will oblige a victim, and may cave others from being victimized.

D. M'Faelase,

Tay-street. Invercarcargill, 3rd December, 1862.
