Death of Colonel Spottiswood. — We have to record the death of the above gallant officer, lately commanding the Ist (the King's) Regiment of Dragoon Guards, which occurred at Leamington on Tuesday last. The deceased officer entered the army as cornet, May 10, 1833; became lieutenant April 29, 1836: and captain, October 11, 1839. He served as brigademajor of cavalry with the left wing of the army at Gwalior in 1843, and was present at the battle of Punniar, for which he received a medal. He served also, in the like capacity in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, and was present at (he battle of Sobraon, for which he also received a medal. He became major April 29, 1850; lieut:-col,Nov. 12, 1852; and colonel, 28th Nov., 1854. He commanded the Ist Dragoon Guards in the Crimean campaign, from August 16, 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol, for which he was rewarded with the medal and clasp, and the fifth class of the Medjidie. — Glasgow Daily Herald.
