LAKE COUNTY JOTTINGS.
A merry Christmas to you all ! Weather perfect, and grass Jplentiful. Cricket matches galore ! Arrow leading for the cup, as far as the Lakes group is concerned, and their next cup match, will, in all probability, be against a Southland team. They defeated Queenstown in the two matches played this year, and Lumsden in the one. Most of the doctor’s furniture and instruments and hospital bedding were saved in the recent Wakatipu Hospital fire. The insurances are — Hospital furniture, L4OO ; buildings, L 1,600 ; doctor’s furniture, L 325. One of the servants in attempting to save something had a narrow escape from being burnt, and had to jump out of the window of the top storey and climb down a verandah pole. She was much scorched about the head. The Premier mine, Macetown, is at a standstill, but there is a good deal of alluvial mining going on.
