Cycling Notes

[By Safety.] Intending 1 competitors at the New Tear’s Day sports will please bear in mind that the entries close to-night at eight o’clock, and no entry will be taken after that hour; also that no entry will be handicapped unless accompanied by the necessary entrance fee. For the benefit of country visitors who intend seeing the Cycling Sports on New Year’s Day I may mention that the entrance to the ground is at the extreme end of Yarrow Street, but there will probably be a bus at the station to meet the trains and convey people to the ground.

I see that the Southland County Council intend to summons any cyclist caught riding on the North and East Road footpaths. The simplest and most effectual way for the Council to stop cycling on the footpaths would be to make the roads fit to ride on, and then there would be no necessity to patronise the footpath. The special prizes presented in connection with the Cycling sports on New Year’s Day make a fine display in Mr B. R. Godward’s window, while the Edmunds cup, which will be largely competed for, is on view in Mr R. W. Jones’ establishment. Mr God ward has also made an attractive show with his newly imported bicycles and cyclists’ requirements. He has just received a direct shipment of forty-two machines, comprising the Reliance, Interchangeable and Austral makes, and can now supply an up to date safety at a long way under £2O.
