In a general way all farmers understand that salt is a necessity to the well-being of cattle, but it is doubtful

if many are aware of the influence its presence or ,abser»ce. has ou -the production of milk. The Mississippi Experiment Station made a trial in this direction which is thus summarised ; From June 20th to July 18th. three cows were kept without salt, the milk from each cow being weighed twice daily from July 4th to July 18th. From July 18bh to August Ist the same cows received four pounds of salt each. The milk given during the two periods was as follows r For period with salt, 564 lbs.; for period without salt, 454 lb.; gain from use of salt 110 lb. The man who keeps salt and water where his herd can have access to them at will undoubtedly profits by it.
