DUNEDIN MARKETS.

The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 31st October:—

Fat cattle.—l3s head were yarded, mostly prime quality and medium weights. Bidding was rather brisker than at last week’s sale, and prices were a shade firmer. Bullocks sold at L 7 2s 6d to LlO 2s 6d; cows, L 5 10s to LlO.

Fat sheep. —There was a moderate supply, 1971 being penned, these included 100 p-ime merinos, the rest crossbreds mostly useful to prime mutton. Crossbred wethers brought 14s to 17s; one pen wethers, 18s; other wethers, 12s to 13s 9dj crossbred ewes, 10s to 16s; merino wethers, 9s 9d to I2s. Fat lambs.—Best lots sold well at quotations, but small and inferior were neglected. Best brought 9s to 11s 6d; one lamb (extra), 14s ; others, 6s 3d to 8s 9d. Pigs. Eighty-four in, the bulk suckers, with only moderate demand. Suckers brought 8s to 14s 6d ; stores, 15s to 21s 6d ; porkers, 20s to 38s.

Sheepskins.—Heavy green skins, both crossbred and merino, were in good demand, and brought full rates. Country dry skin 9 also received good attention, shippers.operating in these to some extent, and for which full prices were secured. Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 5d to 2s 3d ; do do merino Is 4d to Is 9d ; medium to good crossbreds, 2s 4d to 4s ; extra heavy, 4s 3d to 5s 9d ; good to best merinos, Is lOd to 3s ; extra heavy, 3s 3d to 4s 3d ; dry pelts, 2d to Is Id ; best green crossbreds, 5s 3d to 5s 7d extra heavy and picked, 5s 9d to 6s; medium to good, 4s to 5s 2d ; green merinos, 2s 9d to 3s 9d. Eabbitskins. —The demand for these continues brisk. All sorts are readily taken up at prices quite on a par with late rates; extra good were id higher. Prime winter skins have the most attention. Quotations; For best winter grey does, 12Jd to Is Ifd ; choice, Is 2£d ; best bucks and does, mixed, lid to 12d ; do medium, lOd to- Hd; off season, 8d to 9|d ; inferior to medium, 5d to 7d ; suckers and half-grown, 2d to 4£d ; best winter black and fawn, Kid to Is; medium, 7|d to 9£d: inferior, 4d to 7d per lb. Hides. Prices remain steady at about equal to those lately current—say, for heavy weights (601 b and over), 2£d to 3d ; medium, lid to 2d ; light, Id to l£d per lb. Tallow and Pat.—Best rendered mutton, 18s Gd to 20s; medium to good, 15s 6d to 17s Gd; inferior to medium, 12s 6d to 15s ; best rough fat, 12s 9d to 13s ; medium to good, Us Gd to 12s 6d; inferior to medium, lus to lie f»er cwt. (ex store). Grain.—Wheat: A moderate demand continues to exist for best milling velvet, in which a little more business could be done if on the spot.—Fowls’ wheat has good inquiry, and easily disposed of at late quotations, which remain firm. Quotations : For prime milling velvet 2s lOd to 2s lid, good to best do and best Tuscan 2s 9d to 2s lOd, good to best red wheat 2s Sd to 2s 9d, medium and good whole fowls’ wheat 2s Gd to 2s 7d, broken and inferior to medium 2s 2d to 2s Gd (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats : Quotations : For prime milling is 4£d to Is sd, best short bright feed Is 3fd to Is medium to good Is 3d to Is 3fd, inferior and musty Is to Is (ex store, sacks extra, net).
