Angling.

CURRENT NOTES. The Oreti has been very low and clear again this week, and the few anglers who ventured out to Oporo were disappointed and returned with empty bags. With the sky like brass and water like glass, fishermen have not much chance of getting fish. The heavy rain that fell in the Western, district on Wednesday evening should freshen up the streams for next week. Quite a number of anglers made their way to the lower waters of the New River on Wednesday afternoon, but I did not hear of a single fish being bagged. The tide being high and no wind, was the cause of the pointmentMr Gresham, while netting for whitebait, scooped up a 2 lb perch, bub it was in very poor condition, so he put it in again. Mr H. Howells, of Waianiwa, landed 8 nice fish one morning last week from the Oreti, above the iron bridge. Several anglers paid a visit to the Invercargill jetty last Monday evening. Mr G. Anderson was the only lucky one. He hooked and landed a nice 2£lb trout.

Dr Bauchop, of 0 tan tan, lias no reason to grumble at the sport to be got in the Aparima. He has landed over one hundred fish during the last month, averaging one pound each. A fisherman left town last week for Thornbury to combine business with pleasure. He had not been on the bank of the river before he caught a fine fellow (fishing without a license.) He is going to show him, and expects him to tarn out a “ five pounder.”
