MATAURA NOTES.

Last Saturday the Mataura first ;and Riversdale teams played a cricket match on the Gore cricket ground, “whdch. resulted in a win for IVXataura •on the first innings by 32 runs. Mataura put on 64 runs beforejbeing disposed of ; the Riversdale players only •succeeded in making 32 runs, I the fowling of Stewart and Burnside proving too good for them. There heing a little time to spare, Mataura ■started a second innings, and when stumps were drawn had lost 6 wickets for 54 runs. Those who reached douple figures were for Mataura : "Moffett 11, and Burnside 10 ; while the byes totted up to 13. In the sec•ondiunings Maw (21) and Stewart (19) were the main contributors. There was only one player who reached double figures on the Riversdale side —Clark, who knocked up 17, not out. The ordinary monthly meeting of -the Mataura Town Board was held on 'Tuesday evening. Permission was •granted the Southland Frozen Meat Co. to lay a six-inch pipe drain from the Waimumu stream to their works •on condition that plans pe submitted to the chairman and Mr Cameron, who ■have power to act in the matter. There was a good number of our local shootists on the range on Wednesday, but nothing sensational was done, the scoring on the whole being rather disappointing. The band turned out on Wednesday evening and played several tunes, * taking their stand on Mr Culling’s hill at the back of the township. They were heard to advantage by those on the west side of the river, but those ■ living under the hill did not get much benefit. No doubt their turn will -come. We have been having thunder plumps all round about the last two days, but very little has reached us. Maybe we will got more than we bargain for. We could do with a good fall of rain. Housewives are beginning to find their tanks running dry.
