ROYALTY AND AGRICULTURE.

It has long heen one of Scotland’s agricultural grievances that, ■while Royalty invariably patronises the National Agricultural Society of England’s annual show, the national show of Scotland has been allowed to come and go without the smile of any Royal personage. This year (says a Home paper) the Duke of York was secured by the executive of the Highland and Agricultural Society for the national show at Aberdeen. His Royal Highness spent two days visiting the show and during that time he created the most favourable impeessions. He showed tact worthy of his father in going the round of the show, and particularly pleasing to Scottish stockbreeders was the honour he conferred upon the veteran shorthorn breeder, Mr Cruickshank, of Sittyton (who has spent a lifetime in evolving the Aberdeenshire type of shorthorns), by singling him out for special congratulation. The takings for the four days the show w r as open amounted to £5,116, a total exceeding that which has ever been drawn at any previous show held by the society during its long existence. This large increase in the drawings is, of course, attributed to the presence of Royalty, aad in future there is to be an effort made to have a Royal visitor to the exhibition each year, as in England
