HE NEVER TOLD A LIE.
A workman in a factory being continually asked for tobacco by his shopmates, and not caring to tell a lie resorted to the following stratagem. He carried two pouches, and one he called ‘ the world/ which was always empty, the other ‘ a friend/ which contained tobacco for his use. When asked for tobacco by his mates, he would reply: 1 I have not any in ‘ the world/ what I am smoking I got from ‘ a friend.’
