A WHEELMAN’S SONG.
‘ On a bright summer’s morn, at the break of the dawn, A spin on your wheel you enjoy, Though the evening before you are weary and worn With business and other annoy. "When astride your good wheel how pleasant you feel, Your trouble and sorrow all gone, 'As you dash through the air far away from dull care On your “ bike ” in the bright early morn. Chorus — Then away we will go, so merrily ho ! When all nature looks smiling and gay ; As you mount on your wheel, true pleasure you feel. Then we’ll all go a-wheeling to-day. # * * * On a clear frosty night, with the moon shining bright, Far away on your “ jigger ” you ride ; And go jogging along with a laugh and a song, No matter whatever betide. If the road it is bad you oft-times are glad On the footpath to take a good spin ; But be careful to scout, for if Bobby’s about You are collared and then get “run in.” * * * * Now life is a wheel, when its troubles you feel — It’s nought but a bit of bad road; And though now on the metal, on a good road you’ll settle, And then you can shake off your load. Tho’ the hill may be steep, you must not go to sleep— But graft and the top you’ll soon gain ; You’ll find when you’ve done it, that once on the summit, You are ready to climb it again. —E. K. GODWAED.
