Two earthquake shocks were experienced in Canterbury on Wednesday. In the Armin' district chimneys were thrown down. Despite the cry of dull times, it is encouraging to see new businesses starting in our midst. In Tay street, opposite the Courthouse, Mr Geo. Ross (formerly with Mr J. Tait, in Dunedin) has commenced as repairer, renovator, and dyer of clothes, &c. As he is a specialist at the business he should find an opening in Invercargill. —Another pie shop, the Colonial, has been opened in Dee street, next to Mr G-eddes, tailor, by Mr R. Graham, while Mr J. McDonald, of George street, Dunedin, opens in the tailoring business over Messrs Mair and Shepherd’s premises next week. He will also make waterproof coats to measure.
