A BATCH OP “DRUNKS”
No fewer than six cases of drunkenness had to be dealt with at the Invercargill Police Court last Monday hy Messrs R. F. Cuthbertson and G. Froggatt, J.P.’s. Three were fined, and three (first offenders) discharged with a caution. Some of the defendants were run in before, and others shortly after midnight, and Mh Cuthbertson enquired if the police had obtained any clue as to who had supplied the men with liquor. Constable Green said that none had been secured so far. —Mr Cuthbertson added that people who supplied men with drink who had evidently been intoxicated were quite as much to blame, and wherever the police could do so, it was eminently desirable that the authorities should be supplied with the information. He did not say that there had been any negligence, but simply that it was remarkable that six men should be found drunk in the principal streets without there being any clue as to who had supplied them. Every possible effort should be made to discover the original offenders. —Constable Green said that every effort had been made, but so far without success. —Mr Cuthbertson : It is very important that this should be done in every case.
