AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.

The National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., report as follows of the Invercargill markets :

The mild open weather of the past week has already had a reviving influence, and we are very pleased to be able to report, after a long spell of dullness, quite a. boom in the stock market. It is the more gratifying seeing that everyone has been predicting worse times, but no doubt things depend a good deal on how they are viewed. We do not wish to take a too sanguine view of matters, and at the same time it is not wise to go to the other extreme, but seeing the number of very good years the farmers have had, it is absurd to suppose that one bad one will injure them seriously. There is no doubt that too much credit has been at the bottom of a lot of the trouble, and if everyone will join in trying to limit this, there will be better times for .all. As expected, a large entry of sheep was forward for Winton sale yesterday, consisting mostly of hoggets of all grades, and everyone predicted a very dull sale, but fortunately these croakers were doomed to disappointment, as the sale from start to finish was a thorough success, and not from any actual booming of prices, as each lot was sold on its merits, and almost every seller had to close owing to shortness of feed. ■ The entry totalled about 4000 sheep, and with the exception of one line these were sold at the following prices—Good heavy-woolled hoggets, 9s to 10s; ordinary, 7s to 8s 6d ; small, 4s to 5s ; fat wethers, 12s to 13s 2d ; store, 9s to 10s 3d; breeding ewes (medium quality) 6s to Bs.

A very fair entry of cattle and good sale, small steers selling at 60s; yearlings, 31s; cows in calf, £4 to £5 10s.

Skin and fat sale. —A good entry and keen demand. Heavy green skins, 4s to 4s 2d ; good dry do, 2s 8d to 3s 8d ; light do, Is 2d to 3s.

Rough fat, 11s 9d per cwt; hossehair, Is per lb ; hides, IJd to Ifd per lb. Horse sale, Winton, Thursday, 16th Aug. —At the request of a large number of settlers we have arranged to hold a sale on this date, and trust to receive the support of all favoring it, as if successful we will hold regular monthly sales.
