The Home Circle
[Conducted by LINDA.]
EVERY-DAY LOVE. , u You love me ?” So you often say ; They’re pretty words to hear ; You tell me almost every day— But do you mean them, dear ? For you mnst promise, ere I hold Your love-vows any good, That, without ever being told, You’ll always chop the wood. You say, “I have such lovely hair,” You praise my hands and feet, You call me “ good,” you call me “fair,” Affectionate and sweet. “ I’m lovely as an angel,” You many times have said — But promise me, whatever comes, That you will praise my bread. And you must say you’ll never scold If on a washing day You sometimes find your dinner cold, "When maybe cook’s away. On Monday morning I confess It is my heart’s desire— I don’t see how you can do less Than light the copper fire. And you must promise not to tease For pancakes when it’s hot; You men are very hard to please, - Thank goodness ! lam not. This is the love I ask for. I here and now confess. Until you give me first your “ Yea,” I shall not yield my “Yes.” F. A. H.
