help one "Another. We never can rise by the fall of another, Whatever our pride or our passion may say ; Be wise then and know that each man is thy brother, , And take not his worth or his treasure away. We may whisper aad wink_ bqjt the truth is unaltered, < • It is only in us that the gold has turned clay; And often where we with our passions have paltered, Goodwill would have shown a clear, generous way. Then think of the help wejnay be to each other, How a smile and a kind word will cheer on his way A weary and footsore unfortunate brother, And strengthen his weakness and brighten his day. We know .not the height to which goodness would raise us, We know not the treasure that is lost to the "soul; " ', . lI &SZZ When we pander to passions that others may praise us, And lose both self-interest and good to the whole.
