Football Notes

[By Poster.]

A large number turned out to see Pirates v. Star matchr.last Wednesday. V. The Pirates were victorious—a penalty goal (3 points) to nil. Excitement ran higb throughout the match. .. Mcßobie was playing a good game when he was knocked out and had his collar bone broken. Onlookers were very sorry for Dave, who is a popular player. ' Manson played a safe game at fullback. He put in some splendid kicks. Cuff behind the scrums was a treat to witness, although greatly out of form. McKay played a very fast game, but talks too much. His captain had to reprimand him on more than one occasion. Geo. Ramsay was one of the mainstays of the Stars. Watty Mcßobie made the most of the shows he had. The passing was not of the best, although the Stars had some nice passing rushes on. Pirates had a good scrum man in Anthony, but he had his match in Lee, who worked like a Trojan, and made a favourable impression. Smith kicks too hard in the “ruck.” I predict a big u gate ” next time these two teams meet. Rallingshaw moves too slow ; otherwise a good man. Mr R. Galbraith pleased all with the whistle. Rogers put in some good work with his feet. Bain is very fast \yhen he gets away —not many shows on Wednesday. Lennie seemed inclined to dribble when he had the chance. Purdue invariably got the ball on the line out. “ Les.” Murphy showed good form throughout. Jenkins was the best man on the ground, barring none. Donaldson is not to be put out by being rushed by half-a-dozen men. Anthonj' - presented a “ gory ” appearance towards the finish. Wills hadn’t a great dbal to do. Hughes takes stopping when heading a rush. Tapper is a g’ood man behind the scrum ; passes out smartly. Hawthorne is the making of a slashing good three-quarter; very fast. I hear Geo. Ramsay is to be reported for making uncalled-for remarks re the referee. Bad policy, George. Dr. Fullarton was on the ground, and attended Dave Mcßobie. Gbckroft is never caught napping. H. Mcßobie, the fast man of the Pirates, follows up well. Knuckey showed up to advantage. Pirates missed Lock and Farquharson. I. beat Win ton by 10 points to five. Wade potted a neat goal. Le Cren and Hurst are the mainstays of the Winton team. McKenzie played a good game for the Blues, McPherson might be interpreted to read “ McFierce-’un.” Duncan always looks fierce when playing. Piates A went down before Star by 3to nil. Bain, scored the try. Pirates B scored a win over 1.P.0, second by 25 to 5. Fancy Ashcroft playing for I.C.F. second ! Mr R. Mcßobie referee in Winton--1.F.0. match.
