THE LABOUR MARKET.
H. Spear, Invercargill, reports as followafor the week ended 25th May, 1894:—Business in town is very slack, but in thecountry there is a slight change for the better ' so far as the demaud for manual labour i»concerned, snch as ploughmen, general farmhands, grooms, and station cooks. Wages areas follows :—Married couples L6O and L7O per year, shepherds L 55 and L6O, ploughmen LSO, farm labourers 16s per week, cooks 20s and 255, grooms 15s, gardeners 20s and 255, milkers 10s and 15s, flax hands (boys) 7» and 10s per week. There is no demand forcarpenters.
