Fbidat, Mat 11. The monthly meet inf; was attended by Mr T. Green (the Chairman), and Crs. Hast, McQueen, Dunlop, Fraser, McCallum, Hamilton, and Raymond. The following among( other business was transacted :—On the motion of Cr. Raymond a resolution was passed to the effect that the Council is agreeable to carry out the drainage of the main street of Wyndham on certain conditions, to be approved by the public bodies interested, a committee being appointed to draw an agreement for consideration of said bodies. The Hon, H. Feldwick and G. Challis, re-pi-esenting the borough of A venal (and Mr D. L. Matheson, on behalf of the trustees of the late J. T. Thomson), asked the Council to take steps to abate the nuisance arising from the drain on the Park Road. —Referred to the chairman and member lor the Riding, with power to act. The Minister of Mines wrote that he could not do more than offer a subsidy of L for L up to LSO for the Waipapa Six Mile road. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Hast, that all persons who have received permission to erect swing gates be required to comply with section 12 of the Public Works Act. 1889, and also to gravel the approach on both sides. He the Council’s petition against any part of the County being required to contribute towards the cost of the proposed traffic bridge at Gore, it was intimated that the matter would probably be inquired into by a Commissioner, before whom the Council would hare an opportwnily of adducing evidence in support of their position. >• It was resolved to secure for the Council an acre of the gravel reserve in section 34, block 9, Oteramika. The Lands and Survey Department intimated that the following sums had been voted for the works named : —L3OO for roads in CampbelltownoHundred; L3OO for roads in Invercargill Hundred ; Ll5O for MakarewaGrove Bush road; Ll5O for Oteramika district roads ; L2OO for Mabel district roads; LJ. 50 for Reaby-Retreat road; LSO for stock bridge over Gow’s Creek.—The chairman was authorised to sign the necessary agreements, and it was decided to call attention to the fact that LSO more was required for Oteramika district roads, Ll5O having been named in error, and that the additional amount is urgently needed to give access to the Seaward Bush line. The secretary of the Invercargill Cycling Club forwarded resolutions passed by the Club asking the Council to take action against drivers of vehicles who fail to have lights when driving after dark. In one instance a cyclist on the North Road, who was duly provided with a light, had encountered seven vehicles without lights, and in three cases he run under the horses’ nose, although liable to a fine for not dismounting a chain away. The Club would report breaches of the law if the Council prosecuted tff jt’ars.—After discussion be letter was received, and it was decided that the police be requested to prosecute in all cases of eontravention of bye-laws 38 and 40. It was intimated that the Scottish and N.Z. Investment Co. was willing to sellhalf-an-aere on their Bay Road property for a gravel Reserve.—Steps to be taken to acquire the area. Accounts amounting to £1175 11s 5d were passed for payment. On the motion of Cr Dunlop, it was decided to inform the South Invercargill Council that a claim will be made upon them for their share of moneys spent on the Bluff road during the last twelve months, as far as their boundary extends, and also their share of money to be spent on the road this year. The Council then adjourned.
