THE LABOUR MARKET.
H. Spear, Invercargill, reports under date May 10th, 1894. There is now a slightly improved demand for ploughmen, dairy hands and farm lads, but until a complete revolution has taken place in trade and prices we need not look for much briskness in town or country. Late Wages : —Married couples L6O and L7O per year, shepherds L 55 and L6O, ploughmen LSO, farm labourers 16s per week, cooks 20s and 255, groosis 15s, gardeners 20s and 255, milkers 10s and ] ss, flax hands (boys) 7s and 10s per week. There is no demand for carpenters.
