It is understood by the Tuapeka Times that a strain buyer in the Tapanui district has made large purchases of oats at from lid to 13d per bnshel in expectation of an early rise. The Mosgiel Woollen Factory Co lately paid a dividend of 8 per cent., but the Taieri Advocate points out that the employes have lately only been working half-time, a fact which represents a deal of hardship. It considers it hard that the only sufferers from the dull times should be the toilers, and hints that some of them are thinking of a co-operative movement as a means of bettering their condition.
