BLUFF NOTES. (From our own correspondent). Winter has come upon us this year very suddenly, for we have not experienced a real fine day for the last fortnight, and the last week has been a continuous succession of rain storms accompanied by bitterly cold winds. At a meeting of the Harbour Board held on the 12th inst, it was decided ■fco dredge the deep water berths to a greater depth at once. This course of action has arisen from representations made to the Board by the Tyser Line Ltd., owing to the inability of their steamer Hawkesßay tocoal and finish loading here. The next meeting of the debating club will be held on the 25th inst, at which the initial debate will take place. As the officers of the club will also be appointed the conveners request all members and intending members to be present. It is proposed to form a boat sailing club on similar lines to that of the Star Sailing Club of Invercargill, and should the attempt be successful the club will probably take over the boats Rangipuhi and Maori Girl both these boats it is understood being in the market. In shipping matters the past week has been the busiest here for some time. The freezing steamers Hawkes Bay and Tekoa have both been taking in mutton and general cargo, while the barque Wilhelmine has been receiving transhipments of wool from northern ports. There has also been the usual weekly steamers, and complement of small craft and an old visitor the barque Lochnagar ,Capt. Gasson, has again safely arrived from London after a very adventurous passage.
