Tim worshippers in St. John’s, Invercargill, hud a rave surprise one Sunday about twenty years ago, during the incumbency of the late Kev. Mr Tanner. His place that day was taken by a stranger who preached with an eloquence that fairly thrilled his heaaeis. Though not imposing in the matter ot stature, INature had been pronigal of her favours m other respects, and as his voice rang trumpettoned through the building many were the inquiries made regarding the gifted stranger. He iroved to be the Kev. Mr Selwyn, a worthy son of the great Bishop whose name is inseparably connected with the early history of the Episcopalian Church m the ‘North Island. Mr Selwyn who had arrived by steamer at the Bluft, and devoted his one Sunday in Invercargill to delivering two addresses, was afterwards chosen to fill the arduous office of Bishop of Melanesia. He was some time ago compelled by continued ill-bealth to relinquish that position, and is to be succeeded by the gentleman whose portrait accompanies these fines. This is the Rev. Cecil Wilson, M.A., Vicar of Moordown, Bournemouth, England, since 1891 Mr Wilson received his early education at Tonbridge School, whence he proceeded to Jesus College, Cambridge, from which he graduated in 1882. Tour years later he was ordained by the Bishop of Winchester to the curacy of Portsea, where he remained working with Canon Jacob until his appointment a couple of yea's ago to the Vicarage of Moordown. Mr Wilson, who is an athlete and an enthusiastic cricketer, leases England about the middle of April, and will be consecrated in Kew Zealand on St. Bari.abas’.s Day.
