A‘ FOSTER-MOTHER FOR INCUBATED CHICKENS. ’The following illustration, for which the Sydney Town and Country Journal is indebted to Mr J. J. Roche, Bay View, shows a device used by him as a foster-mother for incubated chickens. Mr Roche, who has had this mother in use for some time, and with excellent results, says : “I am sure it is the most useful and cheapest foster-mother in use. I got the tanks made to order by a plumber, and when they are filled with hot water the temperature in the mother is between B(Meg. and 90deg., and they will not require re-filling for 12hrs. in winter. I have worked this foster-mother very successfully for four years. It saves the expense of burning oil and the trouble of attending to lamps, which is a great consideration, and the loss and anxiety of getting your chickens burned is also avoided.” For a mild temperature like Australia, the hot water tank plan is undoubtedly superior to the method of burning lamps necessary in a cold country.
