EDUCATION BOARD

FRIDAY, March 2xi.

The monthly meeting- was attended ,bv tlie chairman (Mr G. Eroggatt) and Messrs Lumsden, Baldey, Mcleod, Bain, Mackintosh, Mac Gibbon, and Matheson.

The returns read from the various school committees gave the following results :—Mr Matheson, 100 votes ; MrMcNab, 98; Mr Lumsden, 79 ; Mr ■Cowie, 52. The three first-named gentlemen were accordingly declared re-elected.

The election of school committees was fixed for 23rd April. The Board’s balance-sheet, duly ■audited, was received and adopted. The Otago School Commissioners .granted the Board a section in Tay street —the site of the first school •erected in Invercargill. The salaries of Inspectors Hendry and Braik rvere increased by £25 per :annnm, and that of the secretary {Mr Neill) by the same amount —an ■amendment by Messrs Mackintosh, and Mac Gibbon to the effect that it ■be increased by £SO being lost. The question of erecting offices for the Board and a building for a technical school Avas raised ly Mr Bain, and referred to the Executive Committee, Avith pOAver to acti The folloAving appointments Avere made —Groper’s Bush: Mr C.
