DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS.
The markets are thus reported on for the week ended 14th February:—
Fat Cattle. Ninety - two head yarded, including several consignments of good a/erage bullocks, as also cows and heifers (none extra heavy), the greater portion being fair to medium. The limited supply brought about a healthier competition than for several weeks past, and a clearance was made at an advance on last week’s quotations. Best bullocks brought L 9 to L 9 10s ; medium to good, L 7 10s to L 8 10s; light, L 5 7s 6d to L 7 , cows and heifers—medium to prime, L 6 10s to L 8 10s; others, L 3 10s to L 5 15s. Fat Sheep.—The entry comprised 1943 crossbreds, representing the various grades of quality. There was, however, a fair proportion of good wether mutton, including several especially prime lots ; as, also, one or two lines of extra heavy ewes. In the best sheep the actual decline in values was slight, but light-freight wethers and second-class ewes could only be quitted at reduced rates. The heaviest wethers of the day brought 14s 9d to 15s 9d ; but at the latter figure they were extra prime, and consisted of two or three pens only. Keally good sheep sold at 13s Gd to 14s ; medium to good 12s Gd to 13s ; prime ewes, 12s Gd to 15s 3d; a few selected sheep to 16s 9d ; others, 8s to 11s Gd.
