BLUFF NOTES.
During the last few days the weather lias been extremely warm and close, and were it not for the occasional sea breeze, the heat would be unendurable. We have had one shower of rain this week, the first for some t time, but the supply of water stored therefrom is getting low again and if we do not get a good steady downpour before long we are likely to experience a water famine. Preparations are being made for the fish and oystering season which starts next month. Owing to the liquidation of the Oystering Co. there will be keener competition than there has been for some time past, ■ but all expect to make wages. The original j Oyster Company has been re-formed, and I will carry on business under more favourable ! circumstances. ' Mr Watcrston’s barque Alexa, Capt. Deil- J ncr, arrived from Port Chalmers on Wednesday. The Alexa comes into port in spick and span order, and appears to have been well looked after during her long cruise. The barque Wairoa should finish taking in wool j early next week. The Delmira lias sufficiently advanced with her discharging to take in bal- J last fer the outward voyage. The Andes and | Lutterworth are daily expected. j
