BLUFF NOTES.
At a meeting of the shareholders of the Bluff and Foveaux Straits Fish and Oyster Co. it was decided to go into liquidation, and Messrs Whealler and McAra were appointed liquidators. At the last meeting of the Borough Council the town clerk (Mr Me Dougall) was appointed inspector of ivorks, at an additional salary of £25 per annum. A cricket match between the second eleven and the Southern Cross club was played on the Bluff ground on Wednesday, and resulted in the overthrow of the visitors. Some very good play was exhibited on both sides. With a view to capturing’ prizes at the forthcoming- regatta oarsmen are now putting - in steady" work on every' available opportunity", and the owners of sailing boats are not idle either. If strangers bear off the best prizes this year it "will not be owing to lack of industry or expenditure on the part of Bluff contestants. The harquentine Ocean Ranger arrived from Newcastle on Tuesday", and the Esther from Napier the day previous. The Wairoa has taken in some of her homeward cargo during the week, and the Crusader has about 2000 hales of wool on board in addition to grain cargo.
