' Sontlalanci Farmers’ Implement & Engineering Company, Ltd., XDjBE & LEVB3ST STS. AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERS AND IMPLEMENT MAKERS, BOILER MAKERS, IRON AND BRASS POUNDERS 'Manufacturers of the improved “COLONIAL” Combined Grain, Turnip, and Manure Drills. These machines have been very ranch improved, and are fitted with our New Patent Front and Bear Lift, which enables the driver to lift or lower the Coulter from the seat in front or from the rear of the machine as usual. This enables us to construct our Frame or Undercarriage so that the Grass Seed Box can be placed in front or at the rear of the Drill Box as desired ; this can be shifted to either position by any ordinary labourer in a few minutes. We have also fitted our machines with a new OPENBACK COULTER, which gives plenty of room for the Manure and Seed Conductors, and allows the Coulter to be altered to any desired rake or angle ■without crowding or jamming the conductors. The Coulter bars are of Spring Steel, and are attached to the front drawbar by a patent adjustable clip, which enables tlTe Coulters to be set to any width required from 6 inches to 20 inches (or more) apart. THE MANURE FEED is of a very simple construction and wonderfully easy of access. By unscrewing three small nuts any one of the pans or feeders can be removed without the slightest exertion. For regularity in distributing all kinds and conditions of Manures, we can safely say that The Feeder has NO Equal. Farmers requiring Drills for the Turnip Season should examine our improvements, which will convince them that the “COLONIAL” IS THE DRILL TO BUY. GRUBBERS OB CULTIVATORS (Olay Pattern). A simple but effective barometer can (it is stated) be made by filling a common, widemouthed pickle bottle within three inches of the top with water ; then taking an ordinary Florence oil flask, and, having removed the straw covering and washed it thoroughly, plunging the neck of the flask as far as it will go into the pickle bottle, you have thus a complete barometer. In fine waather the water will rise into the neck of the flask higher than the mouth of the pickle bottle; in wet and windy weather it will fall to within an inch of the mouth of the flask. Before a heavy gale of wind, at least eight hours before the gale reached its height, the water, has, it is said, been seen to leave the flask altogether.
