SOUTHLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
Wednesday, 22nd November
The annual statutory meeting was attended by Councillors Green, Fraser, McCallum, Raymond, Ward, Hamilton, Dunlop, Hast and McQueen.
Cr. Green was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and duly acknowledged the confidence, reposed in him,—A sum of £IOO was voted to the chairman to cover travelling expenses.—Cr. Hast was appointed chairman of the Finance Council and Cr. Raymond chairman of committees.
The followimg representatives cf the Council were appointed on the bodies named : On the H. and C.A Board, Councillors Green, Hamilton, Ward, and Fraser ; on the Southland Hospital Trust, Councillor Dunlop; on the Riverton Hospital Trust, Councillor Fraser; on the Wakatipm Hospiital Trust, Mr Geisow; on the Arrow Hospital Trust, Mr St. Omcr.
Ordinary business was then taken up
The surfaceman was instructed to attend to a drain on Venus Road, Makarowa, Cr. Dunlop remarking in connection with an application for more extensive works there, that, according to the apipropiriations, Awarua had only LlO to carry on for the next eight months.
An offer from A. Blakic to exchange piortion of section 17, block 14, New River Hundred, for the gravel reserve in section 52, b'oek 13, was left in the hands of the chairman. —W. Orr was granted permission to occupiy a gravel reserve in block 20, Waimatnku. New River Hundred The Avenal Borough Council asked if the County would take united action with them and the Invercargill Corporation to form Kelvin road with a view to a ditch from which a stench came being filled up). The Engineer said the ditch was an eye-sore,— Member for riding to report. John Weavers, G. and P. Stevens and others wrote re works at Otatara. —Engineer to repiort. J. Stewart was appointed ranger and ponndkcepier for the Winton District and Oreti Riding. A sum of Llls was voted for repairing the groins and bridge at Mataura Island, damaged by the recent floods. A number of applications for works having been dealt with, the Council adjourned to 14th December.
