MATAURA NEWS. Messrs J. and J. Galt, general blacksmiths, &c., are making extensive additions to their shop in River street. Tlie new building comprises large shoeing shed and office, and an apartment for repairing all kinds of agricultural implements. Mr Dempster, wheelwright, has an exceed- 8 ingly well-finished spring cart on view; the ironwork being very neatly executed by Messrs Galt Bros. Country residents have now no need to go further than Mataura for anything in this line, as the workmanship is all that could be desired, and the prices very moderate.

Mr H. W. Stewart, organist of the Presbyterian Church, is taking pupils for the organ. Those wishing to learn this instrument should lose no time in availing themselves of the opportunity. The Blue Ribbon Gospel Temperance Society, which is very strong hero, are rehearsing for their next concert, which takes place on Dec. G, in the Oddfellows Hall. These entertainments, held monthly, are very popular, and invariably draw full houses. Mr Christie, a candidate for Mataura, addressed the electors in Humphries Hall on "Wednesday night ; Mr Culling in the chair. The address was well received, Mr Christie proving himself to bo well acquainted with Hie burning questions of the day. After the address several questions were answered to the apparent satisfaction of the questioners. Mr Christie, objecting to a vote of confidence, one of thanks only was proposed and carried unanimously.
