THE SOUTHERN CROSS r >■ Writing Competition WITH the view of encouraging our young people to attain proficiency iu handwriting, the proprietors of this journal have decided to offer three prizes* consisting of boohs of the value of 7s 6d, ss* and 3s respectively, for specimens of writing from boys in the fourth and fifth Standards, iu attendance at the Central, South, Park and Roman Catholic schools, Invercargill. The competition will be carried out under th® following conditions : 1. Competitors not to be above 13 years of age. 2. Specimen of writing to consist of ashort letter on any familiar subject, and to occupy a single page of note paper. 3. All letters to be sent in to this office by the 16th inst, accompanied by a certificate as to age from parent or teacher. The winners will have the right to select the books they desire.
