Until 1650 the art of making needles was kept a secret. it was then tanght to the English by Christopher Greening, and English needles are now sold all over the world. It is stated that at Jdedditch alone 20,000 people make more than 100,000,000 needles a year, and they are made and exported so cheaply that England practically monpolises thg trade, and has no rival.
