BLUFF.
The weather having been fine at the beginning of the week, there was a general ele sranne of vessels which had been detained in port wind-bound. The Tyser Line’s S.S. “ Celtic King” with general cargo and 33,030 odd carcases of mutton sailed for London early on Sunday morning. Tnc ship Waimate with part general cargo sailed the same day for Wellington and the locally owned barque Ganymede was recompensed for her enforced spell of idleness by getting off with a leading wind on- Monday. The barque Antaros from Brisbane arrived on Sunday also, and was berthed alongside the wharf shortly after daylight. She is at present putting out ballest prepartory to loading grain under charter to the J. G. Ward Farmers’ Association. The barqnentine Dclmira arrived from Malden Islmd on Monday afternoon, laden with 460 tons guano consigned to the N. Z. Land Association, Ltd. The Bluff Musicial Society made their bow to the public in the Drill Hall last Tuesday night. The performance was creditable throughout, the singing being good and the orchestral selections tastefully rendered. The engineering staff at the Southland Freezing Co’s works, reinforced by auxiliary labour, are at present busily engaged in setting up a new machine, some parts of which are of great weight, and require delicate handling. It was stated in these colums last week, that: —„the barque Othello sailed on Tuesday with a cargo of coal fopeNwcastlc.” This is manifestly a printer’s error as coals are not shipped for, but from Newcastle. The barque Othello’s cargo consisted of 4003 sacks of oats shipped by the J. G. Ward Farmers’ Association.
