At”a meeting of the Farmer's’ Club on Saturday the chairman pointed out that it was only south of Oamaru that the 2?t per cent was deducted on wheat, and it was very desirable that a uniform custom be adopt ed. It was agreed that a meeting be held within a month to discuss the wheat discount question. Mr Milne moved that in the opinion of the Club no reductions in the Customs duties should take place until the railway freights on farm produce are reduced. —Carried. The Athenaeum lias this week been enriched by the addition of 73 volumes, donated by the President, Mr J. Beattie. The second reading of the Gore Electric Lighting Bill was carried in the Upper House on Tuesday last. I hear of another addition to our already large number of business houses, the latest being another bakery, and there is a rumour of a change of proprietors of one of our grocery firms.
