THE LATE MRS HUNTER.

Another arrival of the early sixties has obeyed Nature’s great mandate, Mrs Thomas Hunter with her husband and family landed at the Bluff in 1862, They had crossed the oeean in what was then con sidered the fast sailing and favourite ship “ Robert Henderson,” a vessel that made three or foiir smart passages to Otago and the Bluff from London and Glasgow in the latter fifties and early sixties and brought out a considerable number of old Otago and Southland families, many of whom are now well-to-do farmers and business people. Mr and Mrs Hunter settled down to dairy farming in the neighborhood of Invercargill and followed that indus-

try for about a quarter of a century with success, when, owing to advanced age, they gave it up some five or six years ago, and had since lived a retired life. Mr Hunter survives his wife. There are two daughters married, both living in this district, —Mrs Q.ualter, of Waimea Plains, —and Mrs P. G-. Stone of Oteramika Road, and a goodly array of grandchildren, several of whom are arrived at man and womenhood, and are doing well in their several occupations. A pleasing feature—in the sad surrounding of the moment — occurred at the funeral of the deceased lady, one which is but seldom seen—a feature that would seem to say “she still lives.”' Six of Mrs Hunter’s grandchildren acted as-pall-bearers. Jt is open to question if a similar occurrance has before taken place in tho colony. The late Mrs Hunter had attained the ripe age of 76 years
