A SYDNEY TERROR.

Sydney lias fallen from its high estate. A few short years ago it was honourably known as being the capital of a colony that had furnished the Soudan contingent a body of men who volunteered for service in 1 gypt, and who subsequently struck some good blows against the enemies of their Motherland, However much war may he deplored in the abstract, the achievement was patriotic and noteworthy ; but its lustre has been dimmed by recent occurrences in Sydney. Within a few weeks two of its citizens have been done to death by members of gangs of larrikins known as “ pushes.” In one case a poor fellow was set upon and kicked to death, and in another stabbing was resorted to. Tbe citizens of Sydney are fully alive to the disgrace attaching to such a stale of things, and have appealed to the Government to take prompt remedial action. Asa beginning, the police are to be armed with revolvers —a step that will, it is to be hoped, lead to' the suppression' of the bands of cowardly young ruffians who have been so shockingly in evidence of late.
