FOREST HILL, A correspondent writes : The second concert and dance given by the Forest Bill string band was held in’ the public ball on the evening of Friday, 21st inst. The programme -was a long and varied one, consisting of instrumental music by the band and glees, songs, and solos. The glee party were Misses S. Robertson and J. Hamilton, and Messrs Grant and Norris, and considering the little practice they bad had together, they acquitted themselves very satisfactorily. Mr S. Buxton made his dehut as a solo vocalist, and succeeded so w-ell he had to respond to an encore, and Mr Grant sang several songs with his usual success. Miss Fox was pianist and played the accompaniments in a very satisfactory manner. The concert (of which Mr A. J. Baird ■was chairman) was brought to a close with an amusing farce entitled *• Killed with kindness,” and phiyed by members of the string band. Mr Norris deserves a special word of praise for the way he has brought the band to its present proficiency, and for the able manner in which he conducted the concert, which was given free by him and his pupils. Mesdames Robertson, McLeod and Norman supplied refreshments, and the courteous manner in which they attended to their arduous duties was all that could be desired. The dance was kept np till the small hours in the morning; Miss Fox (piano), Messrs Norris and Baird (violins) supplying excellent music, and Mr W. McKae being an efficient’M.’C.
