FEMALE BOXERS.
The London World says The Annals of Sporting 1 ” are responsible for the following challenge and acceptance early in the reign' of good King George : —“ I, Elizabeth Wilkinson, of Clerkehwell, having had some words with Hannah Hayfield, of NeWgafce market, and requiring satisfaction, do invite her to meet me on the stage, and box me for three guineas, each woman holding a halfcrown in each hand, and the first woman that drops the money to lose the battle.” To this the other lady replied : —“ I, Hannah Hayfield, of Newgate Market, hearing. of the resoluteness of Elizabeth Wilkinson, of Clerkenwell, will not fail-, God willing, to give her more blows than words, desiring home blows, and from her no favour. She may expect a good thumping.”
