STOCK MARKET.
Referring to the local stock market, the J. G. Ward Farmers’ Association report that anxious enquiries are being made for this class of stock, with few, lines of prime cattle offteing. They add We anticipate that fat cattle will be scarce for two or three months, ar. d would advise those having cattle in forward condition to push them on as fast as possible. It is quite probable that should beef go much higher we shall have a rush of cattle from the North Island. Soutldand farmers should take time by the f...relock and keep our local market supplied, and by doing so keep the price irom going to the extreme, and have the market glutted by outside stock. Extreme prices only benefit a few, and cause fictitious values to be given for store stock. We quote—Prime' beef, speyed heifers, or bullocks, from 650 to 75(11b5., at fully 25b per lOOlbs.; ordinary to good, 17s 6d to 22s 6d per lOOlbs.
