NOT PROUD OF IT.

Some years ago there resided in the country a magistrate who was most cordially hated and detested on account of his harshness and arbitary conduct both on and off the bench. Upon one occasion at the time of flood this gentleman unfortunately fell into the Elan, and would have been drowned but for an old shepherd, who helped him out by the assistance of his crook. The magistrate, being very thankful for his deliverance said: “ How can I thank you P W hat can I say ? What shall I say ?” Very hurriedly the shepherd replied : “ Dunno yo say anything. For Grid’s sake dunno yo say anything, for if our people know I’ve been snch a fool as to pull you out they’ll soon chuck me in.”
