EDUCATION BOARD. The monthly meeting, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs Eroggatt (chairman) Baldey, Lumsden, Mac Gibbon, Macleod, Matheson, and M‘Nab. The following appointments were made : : — Pahia :A. Heathcote, head teacher. Scott’s Gap : Jno. Meiklejohn, head teacher. Seawai’d Moss ; Bertha Stevens, head teacher. Longridge : Elizabeth Taylor, head teacher. The Orepuki committee was authorised to engage the public hall for school purposes during the removal of the school buildings at a rental of £1 a week. Applications for works and requirements from Mabel, Limehills, Waikaia, Croydon, Longridge Village, Wairekiki, Femhills, Rimu, Hedgehope, Wendon Valley, and Clifton were granted, and the carpenter was instructed to report on several others. A request for a teacher’s residence at Seaward Downs was held over for consideration, and the inspector was asked to report as to the establishment of a new school at Grindstone creek, Waiau. The chairman was authorised to publish the results of the pupil teachers’ and scholarship examinations as soon as known.

The Education Department, Wellington, asked for information as to the extent to which advantage is taken of the provision of the Education Act allowing the use of school buildings prior to or after school hours for the purpose of religious instruction. —Information to be supplied. Mr W. Sutherland was elected to complete the membership of the Kennington school committee. ; The Chairman reported on behalf of a special committee the result of their visit to the Middle School, and stated that they recommended that an addition be made to the infant school.—Mr Bain, proposed, that the carpenter prepare . the necessary plans and specifications, and submit the same for the consideration of the

Executive Committee, - Mr‘Baldey moved an amendment to the 'effect that the Board could not see its way to grant an addition to the school, seeing that there is ample accommodation. in the town schools for the children in attendance.—The amendment was not seconded, and after considerable discussion the motion was put and carried.

Accounts amounting to £2504 5s lid were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned! to Friday, 4th August.
