NOTES.

The South Australian Government have ■removed the prohibition against the importation of New Zealand sheepskins.

Out of the 88 Queensland stations (says the “Western Champion ”) 21 propose to shear during the coming season by machine, one by machine and hand, and the remaining 66 by hand. The station* using machines will employ about 646 shearers; those shearing by hand over 2200. It is doubtful whether the Codlin Moth Bill will be gone on with during the coming session, as it seems there is great apathy and, in some places, opposition to the measure. We (Waimea Plains Review) think it is rather a new thing to sow bonedust with turnip-seed on the first furrow. Such, however, was done by the N.Z. Agricultural Co. on about 500 acres on the Sandstone Ridge last spring, and we are glad to hear that the result is most encouraging. It is probable that a refrigerator, will be built at Gibraltar for the storage of Australian meat for the use of the garrison, which has hitherto been supplied from the south of Spain and Morocco. At a meeting of the London committee which is inquiring into the marking of frozen meat, Mr Long suggested the branding of home-grown meat in preference to marking the colonial article, and that a special sign board should be placed over shops where imported meat was sold. He advocated that foreign butter should be packed in special boxes similar to the Victorian, and favoured branding imported cheese on the same linos as the American State brand.
