AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.
The N. M. and A. Co. report:— At the Gore sale on Tuesday, 23rd inst., about 3,000 sheep were entered to a very dull ; market, buyers being conspicuous by their absence. We offered about 1,800 sheep, the bulk of which were sold at the following prices: Q-ood lambs up to 8s 9d ; fat ewt-s (light), 9s to 10s; store wethers, 10s to 12s; breeding ewes,’Bs Id, 9s lOd, 11s 2d, and 13s Id wethers, 12s to 13s; cull ewes, 2s to 3s; fat cows to £5 7s 6d ; yearlings to 365. . At Wyndham on Thursday, 25th inst., we yarded 2,500 sheep and 40 head of cattle. The sale all 'through was extremely dull, resulting in nearly every lot being passed at ' auction, although afterwards we cleared everything excepting 500 sheep, for which •owners would not accept prices. Prime fat .wethers sold up to 14s; fat ewes and wethers, 11s to 12s; store wethers, 10s to, 11s Od; breeding ewes, no demand. Cull ewes, 2s to 3s; lambs, 5s to 7s Gd; dairy heifers, in good demand at £2 11s to £3 2s (id. Privately we have sold during the week 500 crossbred lambs and 40 head mixed cattle at market quotations.
The J. Cf. Ward Farmers’ Association of N. Z., Limited, report : We held our regular weekly stock sale in the Wallacetown Yards on Tuesday last. The entry of sheep was a small one, and the quality very much below the average. The demand for good quality was brisk. Other grades were much about the same as last week. Wethers and merino ewes (small average, about 501bs butchers’ weights) 13s 6d; merino wethers, barely fit to kill, 6s to 6s 3d; aged ewes t.o 14s sd. Store sheep.-.—ln the market for best sorts we note a better demand with prices a shade higher. Fat Cattle.—About 90 head yarded, comprising principally heavy weight bullocks of good quality, the balance good beef and medium quality. Notwithstanding the large entry every pen sold at a shade below last week’s quotations. We quote prime beef up to 21s per lOOlbs. Merino and inferior from 15s to 17s 6d. Wo sold bullocks at up to £7 15s per head. Best bullock* sold at £6 10s to £8 ; others from £5 to £6 os.
Figs—Only two baconers forward. We note a strong demand for store pigs. Buy offering could be placed at full rates. At Wyndham sale on Thursday last the pens were well filled with sheep of all classes. The demand was weak, only the best lines finding buyers. Medium and cull lots were neglected. Sheepskins, rabbitskins, hides, &c. continue in good demand.
The United Farmers’ Agency Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly sale at Invercargill Yards on Tuesday, 23rd inst., when there was a medium entry of sheep and a large number of cattle. Fat sheep were hard to sell at less than late rates, but fat cattle sold well considering the large entry. We sold fat sheep from 10s 6d to 14s; store ewes, 10s; inferior, 4s sd, lambs, at 8s each. Cattle —Fat cows and heifers, £4 to £6 a head; store cows, £3 8s 6d.
We also report holding our weekly horse sale on Saturday, 20th inst., when we again offered a full yard of all classes and sold as follows : Draught mares and geldings (medium to good), £l6 to £2O 10s; superior, £23 to £24 ; light harness horses, £8 5s to £l3 ; hacks, £6 to £lO 10s for medium classes.
The Farmers’ Alliance and Supply Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., report as follows for week ending 25th inst: — Rabbitskins. —We are in receipt of the following information from London :—“ At the rahbitskin sales last Fridays all sorts were higher by Id to lyd. per lb, Avlth good demand.” Locally, skins are coming in freely, and are readily sold at last week’s quotations, viz—Autumns from 10yd to 13Jd ; racks, 7fd to Byd, while good early winters are worth 15d per lb. Sheepskins.—All skins in the market were sold at quotations up to 6d per lb for full woolledhalfbreds ; 44d to syd for crossbreds, according to condition.
Note. —We have sales every Monday, and all rabbitskins or sheepskins are thoroughly classed and valued by an expert before being sold, therefore our country friends can rely on obtaining the very highest prices for any skins they may forward us.
