The Farm.
SOUTHLAND FARMERS’ UNION
A meeting of farmers was held in Invercargill on the 20th inst. to consider certain recommendations of the Executive of the Southland Farmers’ Union with regard to alterations in the rules. The President (Mr J. Fleming) occupied the chair. After discussion the following constitution was adopted, : and it was decided to take steps to form ■ branches of the Union in various parts of the district: — <c (1) That the title of the Union be the Southland Farmers’ Union. (2) That the Executive of the Union consist of a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and committee of five members/ (3) That only resident farmers, farming 25 acres, be admitted to the Union, and that a body of so qualified farmers forming themselves into a branch of the Union in any district shall, upon the payment of 50 per cent, on the subscription of 5s per member per annum, be admitted into the Union. (4) That the general aims and objects of the Union shall be the looking after and protection of the interests of farmers generally. (5) That the meetings of the Union be held quarterly in Invercargill —in the event of important business coming up suddenly, requiring prompt attention, the Executive to have power to call a special meeting to deal with the matter on the same lines as the quarterly. (6) An annual meeting to be held once a year to elect officers and transact other business pertaining to annual meetings, but this meeting shall constitute one of the quarterly meetings. (7) That such meetings shall consist of the Executive and delegates from the branches. (8) Any business coming before the Union shall he notified one month before the quarterly meeting takes place to the Executive, whose duty it will be to notify same to the branches, when the matter shall be discussed at their meetings and delegates appointed to attend the quarterly or other meeting at which the subject is to be considered. (9) That the president shall have power to call a meeting of the Executive at any time he may consider business in connection with the Union requires it.
