DAVID’S ANSWER.

There lived in the Highlands, some fifty years ag - o, a minister who was rather lax in paying - his debts. On a Saturday night he sent his “ man” across the river for a pair of shoes, which he had previously left with David, his shoemaker, to be mended. There happened to be a spate in the river, so that Donald could not get back till almost mid-day on Sunday. When he returned the minister was conducting service in the church, whence his man repaired. The parson happened to be preaching about David, and just as Donald made his appearance at the door, the minister said : “ But what did David say ?” “ David said,” shouted out Donald, to the surprise of the congregation, “that he will send you the shoes when you send the money to him.”
